Light Design
There was a set of 4m of technically advanced LED positioned on the floor externally to the installation in a circle. They directed light up and due to sheer intensit of light and colour were sufficient for flooding the entire space with colour. Ther were controlled through an application on a laptop positioned in the back right corner of the room (where the speaker is). The cables connecting LEDs to controller and laptop wew all tightly taped to the floor and out of reach of audience participants.
The participants only entered the room with myself or one of the invigilators who stayed in the space at all times and then ecorted participants out immediately after the session ended. The participants entered through the door marked in the below sketch and then straught into the installation, stepping over the LED under observation of invigilators.

Colour Inspiration
The colour insipration was taken from the pure, staurated colours seen in the llight installations of James Turrell and Olafur Eliasson. Notably Turrell’s Ganzfeld series over the years and Eliasson’s ‘Room for all Colours‘ and ‘Your Colour Memory‘ amongst others. Some visual references pictured below.

Four Main Colours
Based on the above colours I selected four main colours that featured throughour the eighteen minute light journey: Electric Blue, Magenta Pink, Vibrant Red, Forest Green. There was a whole range of colours that featured inebtween – from white, to pastels and saturated purples (see below sections). I wanted to create a full journey of light and colour that excited and delighted the senses.

Testing Colours
Designing the colour combination was done by using different colours and LED patterns. This stage requiered checking that the light and colours work correctly before the opening of the installation.

Range of Colours
Please note that the camera really struggled to capture the beautiful purity and intensity of the colours so unfortunately the images and videos are only a reflection and not the exact replica of the colour experience offered by this installation.
The section below pictures screengrabs from the installation to showcase a range of different colours that cycled through, with some pastel tones included. These were taken from the inside of the onstallation.

Close-up LEDs
These videos show a close-up, detailed view of the LED strip, and the colours it produces to flood the space with.
